Ceiling Repair in Secaucus

A stained, cracked or sagging ceiling is hard to ignore. We cut out the damage, patch and finish it so it blends with the rest of the room, and we cover your floors and furniture first so the only thing that changes is the ceiling.

Fixing the Ceiling Without Wrecking the Room

Ceiling work is messier than wall work. Dust and debris fall straight down, and every swipe of the sanding pad sends fine powder toward whatever sits below. That is why we start every ceiling repair by clearing or covering the room, taping plastic over doorways and laying drop cloths that stay put.

Most of the ceilings we see have one of a few problems: a brown ring from an old leak, a crack running along a seam, nail pops in a line, or a section that has started to sag. Each one has a different cause, and we tell you what we think caused yours before we touch it. If water is still coming through, the leak needs to be fixed first, and we will say so plainly rather than patch over a wet board.

When the job is done, the repair is primed and ready for a paint touch-up, the plastic comes down and the room is vacuumed. You get your space back the same way you left it.

What Our Ceiling Repair Covers

  1. 01

    Water-stained drywall

We check the stained area with a moisture meter and by pressing on it. Soft or crumbling board gets cut out and replaced. A dry, solid stain gets a stain-blocking primer so it does not bleed back through.

  2. 02

    Cracks and taped seams

Cracks along ceiling joints usually mean the tape has let go. We remove the loose tape, re-tape with mesh or paper, and feather the mud wide so the seam does not show in raking light.

  3. 03

    Sagging sections

A sag often comes from wet board, missing screws or a joist that has shifted. We re-secure or replace the panel so it sits flat against the framing again.

  4. 04

    Texture matching

Popcorn, knockdown, orange peel or smooth, we match the patch to the ceiling around it. On textured ceilings we test on a scrap first so the pattern and spacing look right before it goes up.

  5. 05

    Nail pops and small holes

We reset popped fasteners with screws, fill old anchor holes from light fixtures or hooks, and finish them flush.

Signs Your Ceiling Needs Attention

  • A yellow or brown ring

Stains mean water reached the drywall at some point. Even after it dries, the board can weaken, and paint alone will not hide the mark for long.

  • A crack that keeps coming back

Our humid summers and dry, heated winters make framing move a little every year. A crack that returns after you fill it usually means the tape underneath has failed and needs to be redone.

  • A bulge or dip you can see from the doorway

If a section looks lower than the rest, the board may be pulling away from the joists. It is worth having it looked at before it gets worse.

  • Bubbling or peeling paint

Paint that lifts in patches overhead often points to moisture behind it. We check what is going on underneath before we finish over it.

  • A line of small round bumps

Rows of little circles are nail pops. They are not dangerous, but they spread, and they show every time the light hits the ceiling.

How a Ceiling Repair Day Goes

  1. 1

    Look and explain

We look at the damage, test for moisture and tell you what we found and what we recommend. You know the plan before any work starts.

  2. 2

    Protect the room

Furniture is moved or covered, floors get drop cloths, and plastic goes over doorways and vents so dust stays in one room.

  3. 3

    Cut, patch and tape

Damaged board comes out cleanly, new drywall is screwed to the framing, and the seams are taped and given the first coat of compound.

  4. 4

    Finish and texture

Compound needs to dry between coats, so larger repairs take more than one visit. We sand with dust control, apply texture to match, then prime.

  5. 5

    Clean up each day

At the end of every visit we bag debris, vacuum the floor and leave the room usable. On the last day the protection comes down and the space is left tidy.

What Shapes the Price of a Ceiling Repair

Every ceiling is a little different, so we price after we know what we are dealing with. We walk you through what is driving the number, and you get your quote by phone before we start.

Size of the damaged area
A few nail pops take far less time than replacing a full sheet that soaked through. Larger areas also need more drying time between coats.
Texture
Smooth ceilings are the simplest to finish. Popcorn and knockdown textures take extra steps to blend the patch so it does not stand out.
Ceiling height and access
High ceilings, stairwells and rooms full of furniture take more setup and protection before the repair itself begins.
What is behind the board
Wet insulation, loose framing or an old leak that spread farther than the stain showed can add work once the damaged drywall is opened up.

Ceiling Repair Questions

Can you just paint over the water stain?

Only if the drywall is dry and solid. In that case we seal it with a stain-blocking primer first, because regular paint lets the brown ring bleed back through. If the board is soft, it needs to be cut out and replaced.

Will the patch be noticeable?

Our goal is a finish you cannot pick out from the floor. We feather the compound wide, match the texture and prime the repair. Ceiling paint can look different as it ages, so we will talk with you about touching up just the patch or the full ceiling plane.

How much dust should I expect?

Some dust is part of any drywall job, but we keep it contained. We seal the room with plastic, use dust-control sanding and vacuum at the end of each visit, so it does not travel through your home.

Do you fix the leak that caused the stain?

No, we repair the drywall once the source has been fixed. If we find the area is still wet, we will tell you and wait until it has dried, since closing up a wet ceiling leads to the same damage again.

How long does a ceiling repair take?

Small repairs can often be finished in one or two visits. Larger ones take a few days because each coat of compound has to dry before the next one goes on. We give you the schedule up front so you can plan around it.

Can you handle a ceiling in a rental unit?

Yes. Landlords and property managers call us for stained and cracked ceilings between or during tenancies. We work around occupants and leave the unit clean at the end of each visit.
